Man of the year 2020

The NIGERIA SHALL SUCCEED/MOVE FORWARD empty rhetorics.
The NIGERIA SHALL SUCCEED/MOVE FORWARD empty rhetorics.
In the words of Dele Farotimi, madness is a tag many Nigerians wear with pride, many even rejoice in that tag and several others aren't aware they are a bold carrier of that tag.
In the backlash of several anomalies and the usual Siddon look reaction by our President,. Some 'hailers' started the Nigeria Must Succeed slangs.
It reminded me of the first slams of the Government after assuming power,
CHANGE BEGINS WITH YOU,
Whereas, Change has nothing to do with those at the helms of decision and power.
The Change that begins with you doesn't reduce their overbloated salaries and wages, it hasn't reduce the ever growing cost of Governance.
In as much as any sensible citizen will want a Country they can be proud of,
Let's tell ourselves the truth.
Slangs doesn't build roads,
Slangs doesn't make food items affordable,
Slangs doesn't fix electricity,
Slangs doesn't fix the economy,
Slangs doesn't make internet affordable,
Slangs doesn't improve living conditions
Slangs will not stop vote buying,
Slangs won't stop terrorism/banditry,
Slangs won't stop 'AUTHORITY STEALING'
The list is endless
Hear this o ye Nigerians,
slangs/prayers/wishes doesn't, have not and will never build any Nation,
Nigeria won't be an exception.
Visionary leadership not lip Service build a Nation

CONFUSED ELEMENTS
CONFUSED ELEMENTS.
Earlier this month,
They were posting, sharing and hailing CNN post(ings) on American Elections,
It was their major source of news,
They equally rely on same CNN for other major news across the globe.
They were rather talking about imaginary numbers of death, Which was being pushed to DJ Switch, a fact check will confirm she never at any time say 78.
Our Army initially denied that Soldiers were at the scene even posted same on their official Social Media pages,
That has equally been rebuffed by them,
The inconsistencies of all Major actors in happenings of that night suggest a lot of truths were being shielded and hidden from the populace
Channels TV
Arise TV
Premium Times etc were broadcasting and posting updates on same,
NBC fine came hard on them,
CNN shook the three legged table and now,
It's a 'Fake News' outlet.
Many of us didn't believe that report just because it came from CNN, but following precedence, happenings and usual downplay of such previous instance cum
NBC fine on Nigeria Media outlets.
In my Mother tongue and dialect,
There's a saying
Órú láñ sé'ká
That might sum up why the bill board and all sorts of lightings were put off that night during the shootings,
For several years,
Light has never gone of at that toll gate until the time of the 'Soldiers visit'
Just last week,
I saw several posts placing generational curse on the Lady in question ( DJ Switch ) during her asylum hearings in Canada, all to satisfy Political reasons,
Many claimed to be apolitical,
But will defend whatever this administrator throw up without blinking an eye,
For example,
This was the same set of people that we protested fuel increment and removal of fuel subsidy by the last administration, they did the same and our 'apolitical' friends can't find their voices or energy for rallies/protests anymore,
Éyín nú,
Ólórúñ nú
No sane being should be continuously interested and happy about frequent bad news about their Nation,
At the same time,
No sane human being should defend all forms of nonsense, madness, excessive use of power because of Political affiliation/contraptions in the name of being positive,
Such positivity is gross UNPATRIOTIC and HYPOCRISY, proper Nationhood can't be achieved from such process.
Lastly,
I 'pray' for those who choose to live in self denials,
MAY NIGERIA HAPPEN TO YOU.

Leave Mr President to his Choice
For me,
At this stage,
I think it's an aberration to continue to request Mr. President to say a word.
It is NEEDLESS.
At times like this,
The deaf could hear,
The blind can see,
Even the dumb have started Sóró s'óké
So if someone who is not blind, deaf and/or dumb refused to act,
Is such silence not a message itself?
Infact that message ( silence ) is loud enough.
It comes down to our collective psyche as a Nation,
Before now,
At point of National Issues/Tragedies,
Mr. President refuse to act or speak, then the now termed Presidency will released a briefing,
We have a President who rarely speak to us,
But have energies for his re-election campaign in 2018/19,
He doesn't do Presidential Media Chat/Live Interviews with Nigerian Media etc.
It's fine by a number of people because Political affiliation supersede their love and passion for their Nation.
To the Youths,
The best time to plant a tree was several years ago,
But the next time to plant is is today.
Don't be a used and dump too for whatever Political Merchant,
It's time to chart a new Course.

Ambode;
AN OPEN LETTER TO H.E AKINWUNMI AMBODE
My Dear Governor,
I hope and trust this meets you well.
The events of the last few weeks with regards to your 2nd term bid, the rancour it has generated within your party and several accusations from your party men calls for concern.
However,
Yesterday's press conference was ill-advised,
Whoever advice you to do that yourself wasn't your true friend, that person could have done it himself/herself,
For me personally,
It shows some level of frustration and then desperation of realities on ground, though, you have raised some salient points that people will ask questions on as we approach the elections proper
As it stand, Sanwo-Olu was appointed by you to oversee LSDPC, You mean you appointed someone who spend fake dollars? You mean you refuse to wield the big stick on a psychiatric patient in your team?
Being a 'Lagosian' in my own rights too, I must confess, have never seen such a seemingly effective 'gang up' perfectly orchestrated within a short period of time gather such momentum.
To do some flashbacks,
I remember being a part of those that wanted a 'different' executive Governor for Lagos State, the request was presented to Gov. Fashola then and he forwarded our request to 'certain quarters' wherewhich you became the choice,
When your name spring up in 2014, I remember there were questions particularly regarding Lagos Pension funds, your role during your stints in office as a Permanent Secretary and later Accountant General of the State,
But the truth remains your CV is intimidating and one cannot just ignore it
Dear Governor,
You'll agree with me that among your peers, God has truly been kind to you,
On your assumption of office, I keep asking and posting several sane questions on your official Facebook page and twitter account, usually some go unreplied, while others same 'party men' that are now against you make it look like we hate you with their reply,
I have been privileged to serve in a District Position in an humanitarian organisation, so, I know a little about Service, being in position and friends around Leaders.
Beyond this Sir,
Your desire and passion in Governance can't be totally rubbished as you've already made some bold statement that are visible and my take remains,
You've not been too excellent, but don't deserve the flaks from party members that are now using all mediums to castigate you, you still remain the best among your lots in the South West ( this I know well ) and maybe just the entire federation.
I've seen your giant strides majorly orchestrated by FCC in the bus-stops, most of them have reduced unnecessary traffic in Lagos, I have seen the Jubilee bridges in Ajah and Abule Egba, I have seen the massive road construction in Epe amongst others that are ongoing,
LASTMA has become less combatant and now behave more friendly
LASEMA is rated to be the best in country in the wake of you rebranding them for better service delivery.
From news hitting the airwaves as list of your 'unforgiveable sins' from your party,
Your Excellency,
You truly missed the 'experiment' of VISIONSCAPE, most of us don't know how clean Lagos has been with the old PSP operators until they stop coming, Lagos is now very dirty,
The increment in land use charge also came like a time bomb especially to tenants, who believe they will bear the brunt on behalf of their landlords,
Your wife issue at the Chaplaincy wasn't properly handled too
Personally,
I know several people very close to me have been affected by some of your 'stop work' orders, but I have never use that as a basis to say you failed woefully like your party men are now selling to the world.
Some of them have lost whatever iota of respect and regards I hitherto have for them for their handling of your issue.
However,
I'm not an Apostle of party ticket must be automatic to incumbents, at the same time, denial of such mustn't be on trivial cum greedy reasons, parochial minded and self centered decision of certain elements within the party.
I know of "certain elements" who organised the 1M Youth rally for your second term bid less than 2months ago already issuing press releases, posting your failures and campaigning for the other candidate,
I asked one recently, if you can do this for your member and a serving Governor, I wonder what you will do for opposition?
Head or tail Mr. Governor,
The party is divided and you must not but remember each day, the quantum of betrayals and hypocrisy right under your face and you can't weild the big stick,
Endorsements from all quarters keep coming for the now 'preffered choice'
PSP Operators,
Market women,
LG/LCDA Chairman,
Wards Leaders and now 36 out of 40 members of the State House of Assembly, haa!
I'm sure the fear of many is how you will handle them if they change their mind to support you bid, the time in between now and the party primaries is short to strike such an important deal that will seal the fate of many of them and that's why they will rather sink with your contender at the moment.
Also Sir,
You equally need to thread cautiously,
With 36 out of 40 members of your Assembly declaring support for your opponent, that is more than the minimum required to commence and successfully carry out your impeachment,
As earlier stated Sir,
Let me tell you what most of your aides might lack the confidence to tell you,
I plead with you to take whatever outcome of the primaries in good faith, with the sense of fulfillment that history have it that you've served as a Governor which most of those planning behind you will never get
As it stand,
All forces are against you for their own selfish reason(s) or 'baba s'ope'
The Ladder that assisted you to the peak seems is no longer available for your use.
Fighting dirty won't resolve the issue on ground as you have shake the 3 leg table already with yesterday's press conference
I wish you well

I was so keen on the American elections, that due to the time zone,
I have to stay awake and 'fire' up generator to watch the debate,
I vividly remember with nostalgic feelings, watching all the debates including that of Vice President aspirants especially, The night Trump call Hillary, crooked Hilary 😁,
Ironically the election was on my Birthday eve,
As I made the trip to Akure on the following day, and the expected Blue States start turning red,
I have a first hand understanding and experience of never underestimate the power of number and strength of propaganda,
December that same 2016, our neighbours, Ghana went to polls and the incumbent President lost, I remember President John Dramani Mahama election conceding speech using the word, HATE CAN WIN.
Catching up with footage of Trump/Biden Debate last night and several comments by Nigerians who are domiciled in Nigeria talking about the debate, analysis it in details, using it to determine who want the best for Americans as President,
This are same people who were vocal against Nigerians knowing intellectual capacity of Muhammadu Buhari and shielded him from such debates in circa 2015 & 2019,
We go on to have a President who simply refuse to do PRESIDENTIAL MEDIA CHAT, get interviewed live on TV and only get press releases from the 'Presidency' through Garba Shehu/Femi Adesina
Knowing well that Rome wasn't build in a day ( Which is our regular rhetoric anyways ) but it didn't take forever to build Rome.
We either need to stop sóbólisation or we apply it to our way/act/doings here too
My View; Deregulation and NLC aborted strike action
Deregulation,
Hand of Esau, Voice of Jacob
Adams Oshiomole was NLC President all through President Olusegun Obasanjo tenure,
He rebuffed and rejected all plea to deregulate the Oil sector by that administration,
I remember that period witnessed probably the highest number of industrial action and strike in the history of Nigeria,
Today,
Aliyu is a part of Nigeria current handlers and they want same deregulation he stopped back then
When President Good luck Jonathan attempted same, it provided the perfect platform for APC to launch out fully,
I remember the Ojota protest, Occupy Nigeria etc,
I equally remember vividly,
Our current President during an interview saying Fuel Subsidy is a scam, he's not aware (despite being a former Petroleum Minister ) et Al,
He ended up becoming President and has paid the highest amount any Government in Nigeria has paid on same subsidy in just 5years.
Now,
We're back to deregulation,
A process we could have done with minimal stress and issue 13-15 years ago🤭😢
Unfortunately,
Most of the e-tigers and Social Media analyst on the payroll of our current handlers are barely up to 30years, lack knowledge, spew put whatever nonsense they could conjure on issues a Google search could help them provide a balance view
Fortunately,
Nigerians are EASY to Govern, as 'we' gladly accept whatever is thrown at us, with little or no resistance,
The suffer suffer for world and enjoy for heaven mentality need to be redifined and people need to always stand for what is right, sustainable and in the collective interest of our society irrespective of political affiliation.

Place value on yourself
A father said to his daughter “You graduated with honors, here is a car I acquired many years ago.
It is several years old. But before I give it to you, take it to the used car lot downtown and tell them I want to sell it and see how much they offer you.
The daughter went to the used car lot, returned to her father and said, “They offered me $1,000 because it looks very worn out.” The father said,”Take him to the pawn shop.”
The daughter went to the pawn shop, returned to her father and said,”The pawn shop offered $100 because it was a very old car.”
The father asked his daughter to go to a car club and show them the car. The daughter took the car to the club, returned and told her father,” Some people in the club offered $100,000 for it since it’s a Nissan Skyline R34, an iconic car and sought out after by many.”
The father said to his daughter,”The right place values you the right way,” If you are not valued, do not be angry, it means you are in the wrong place.
Those who know your value are those who appreciate you. Never stay in a place where no one sees your value....... Pls think about it very well

THE SON WHO TAUGHT EVERYONE A BIG LESSON!"
His father was an accountant in a big reputable organization in Nigeria, his father was very wealthy.
His father had three children, two girls and one boy. The boy was 11years when he first travelled abroad. His father used to take his family abroad on vacation every year and spent a lot of millions just for them to catch fun and enjoy life.
The second year when the father was preparing them for another vacation overseas, the boy at the age of 12years told his father that he wouldn't go with them.
'Why son?!'
The Dad asked.
"I don't feel like going Dad...."; the son responded.
"Dad!!! How much does it cost you for my vacation?"
'=N=1.4million'; his Dad answered.
"Dad!!! Am not going, open a savings bank account for me and put the money there"
'Why and where did you gotten this brain from and for what..?'; Dad asked.
"Well Dad, when I grow up, I am still going to be going abroad as much as I wanted, so, why going every year when I can still go by my self in future when I have saved more than enough for myself....?"; the son protested.
'Fine!!!'; said his Dad.
The third year, the boy refused to go. His money was credited into his account.
The fourth year, the same story.
The fifth year, the same story and his Father said, 'I can't fix =N=1.4million in your account this time';
The boy told his father, "Please let's negotiate, how much can you afford?"
'=N=500K'; his father thundered.
"Dad!!! Please don't scream at me, give me =N=750K please....!"; the son pleaded.
'Agreed!!!&; his Dad nodded off.
After fourteen years that his family had been traveling abroad, a problem aroused in his father's office which made his father went bankrupt and was in desperate need of N5million to solve the problem and secure his seat.
Even his wife couldn't help; she was a wife who spent everything on anything!
The two daughters were spoilt children who could eat anything eatable with any resources available to them; they were BIG for nothing except food!
The father became depressed and frustrated!
Then, the boy walked to him and said; "Dad, what's the matter?"
The Dad narrated everything to him, and the boy said, "Dad, give me your account details"; by then, the boy's account balance was around =N=11.6million!
The boy made a transfer of =N=7million into his father's bank account; the father almost fainted!
The mother, in great confusion' questioned the boy from where he got all the money from?!
The boy simply asked his mom, "how many years have you been traveling abroad up an down?
The mother said, 'Fourteen years!'
Then, the boy said, "I saved my own money for traveling abroad for fourteen years!"
The mother knelt down and said, "Oooh my lovely son!"
The father said, 'Ney, is my own loving son, the blood of my blood!'
The mother said, "Yes!!! He is your blood, but I trained him!"
When the boy graduated from the college, his father made all efforts to secure a good job for him in a reputable organization.
Train your children to be an asset and not a liability!
We are living in a world now, whereby, children will graduate from the university and still be depending on their parents for sustenance!
Parents, please note that your children are watching you and 40% of their characters will be what they have learned from you!
I repeat.... Train them, properly and appropriately, in the time of plenty such that when the unimaginable scarcity comes, they will be capable of helping you!
Train them very well!!
Grateful heart.
Eru N'dupe.

Loyalty
Thus the students began laughing throughout the day... Shortly afterwards, math class started and their professor wrote a difficult question on the board.
No one was able to answer it except the bit with the sticker. Amid the slight laughs, for he didn’t know why, he walked towards the board and he solved it, the teacher asked the class to clap for him and remove the paper on his back.
He told him “It seems that you don’t know about the paper on your back that one of your classmates put and the rest of them kept it a secret.”
Then the teacher faced towards the rest of the class and said “Before I give you a punishment, I will tell you 2 things: Firstly, throughout your life, people will put labels on your back with many bad things written on it to stop your progress.
If he had known about the paper, he would not have gotten up to answer the question.
All you have to do in life is ignore the labels people give you and use every chance you have to progress, learn and improve yourself.”
“The 2nd thing is that it’s clear that he does not have any loyal friends among you all to tell him about removing the paper. It does not matter how many friends you have, it is the Loyalty between you and your friends that matter."
If you don't have friends who can defend you behind your back, who can watch over you, protect you and who genuinely care about you, you are better off alone.
To the person placing the label, that word you said against the other person to one person may cause a lifetime damage to the person, Don't place tags on people that will destroy someone when it will not build you.
Think about it!!

The Unjust Feeling of Entitlement
By Adedara Oduguwa PhD
“Adedeji just came back to Nigeria from Los Angeles where he had lived and worked for 20years as a cleaner and menial labourer. His friends Tayo and Jelili were so happy to receive their childhood friend who at 45 is yet to be married and have kids.
His last twenty years has been full of struggles, denials and self sacrifice. He told his friends;
‘ you guys don’t know what God has done for you. Look at you people, you have your own houses, wives, children and everyone in the community can easily identify with you.
Unlike me, many people do not recognize me, some even called me baba London. No wife, no children, no house and no one would employ me at my age, except I start a business. I have lost so much to my 20 years odyssey. I have lost my early life to hustling.’
Adedeji travelled to the United States at age 25 in search of greener pasture. His two friends, also 44 and 46, were professional accountant and lawyer respectively. Deji sold his house in LA and relocated to Nigeria for fear of old age, royal inheritance (being a prince), family and his love for his people.
Although, he has lost all his early life to ‘struggling abroad’, he still came back with 85million naira, his life’s savings. Deji believed he could build a house, start a business, marry a woman and start life all over with this money.
Adedeji called his friends and explained to them his plan to start a new life in Nigeria. He also declared he had 40million naira cash with him. His friends confirmed, ‘with the huge amount, you won’t have any problem starting all over.’
A week after, they took him to a property at the GRA in their town, the property goes for 25million naira according to Jelili who has been bargaining with the seller. Seeing the property, Adedeji loved it and paid immediately.
It was on their way home that he met with Tomi. Tomi is a Nurse at the State’s Teaching Hospital. She’s tall, beautiful, curvy and jovial. They started talking and the rest is history.
As times goes by, Adedeji realized he is left with 2million naira from the 40 million naira declared to his friends earlier on. What happened?
On the very day he declared 40million naira to his friends, his Accountant friend came back at night to ask for a loan of 5million naira. Deji, a simple and generous man asked what the money was for. Tayo said he had collected a bank loan to build his house 5 years before that period and if he didn’t pay back by next week, he will lose the house.
‘Ah!’Deji said.
He dashed him 2.5million naira. Tayo was amazed, he thanked him and left joyfully. The second day, Jelili came with his wife and children crying, he said his wife has been diagonised of breast cancer in the previous month and now the doctor is saying if she’s not operated in the next one month the family would lose her.
Adedeji became very afraid hearing this. He asked ‘how much are we talking about? Your wife won’t die when I am here. God forbid!’
‘2.5million naira’_ Said Jelili.
‘How much do you have on you.’_ Adedeji asked
‘ We have used the money on us to buy drugs for her.’_Jelili submitted.
‘Oh, no problem.’ Said Adedeji
Adedeji wrote a cheque of 2.5 million naira in Jelili wife’s name and handled it to them. They were so happy and prayed for him before they registered their leave.
Adedeji family members didn’t spare him as well, they will come with one problem or the other which he usually absorbed. However, what is amazing is that everyone wants his wristband, wristwatch, shoes, jackets, trousers, sun glasses, and necklaces. It is as if they want to run him naked.
In the few months of his stay at home, Adedeji had spent 38million naira and dashed out almost all his belongings to relatives and friends who had suddenly become beggars.
He has a small diary where he kept daily expenses. Out of the 38 million naira spent, he had only spent 25m naira (for house) and 2.5m naira (purchase of car and upkeep) on himself. The remaining 10 million naira have been spent on other people.
Adedeji called his friends and asked for the way forward. Since he needed to start a business. He had only 2m naira left.
His partner, Tomi has been continuously disturbed by her friends to ask Adedeji to buy her a car. Tomi was a great woman who believes in hard work. She felt she would buy herself a car in due season and should not be a liability to the poor man.
Everyone around Adedeji without planning it wanted to ripped him apart. His mother who is living in a house built for her by Adedeji is also complaining that he’s not doing enough for her.
Adedeji is getting tired of too many demands from friends and relatives in just few months of his stay at home. It is now glaring that if he doesn’t stop dolling out money to people as usual, he would soon become wretched.
In one afternoon, a guy who also doubles as a Plumber working in his property called him on phone to advice him about his relatives and friends. In is words:
‘Egbon, you are a nice person I know, but please trust no body. Do you know after Mr Tayo padded the house price with 5m naira, I do not expect him to still be among the people that will be saying evil about you. Even egbon Jelili lied that his wife has breast cancer to collect 2.5m naira from you.’
‘What are you talking about?’_Asked Adedeji.
‘Well, I know you didn’t know that the property was originally sold for 20m. It was egbon Tayo that added 5m naira to it. He said you are a very stingy person and if he doesn’t add anything to the house’s price, he won’t get anything from you. He also said for the 20 years you have stayed in the US, he didn’t owe you 5 kobo.’
‘Are you sure of what you are saying? Are you sure young man?’ _Adedeji asked angrily.
‘Sir, please calm down, this is Nigeria o. I am saying this because on my way to work this morning I saw him with brother Jelili and two other guys, I don’t know. They were talking about a business for you or so. I didn’t know the exact thing, but I heard of them talking about their own commissions.
Sir, all I want to say is please be careful and don’t tell anyone or act in anyway that would make your friends to know I said anything to you. Our people are very dangerous. Money is hard to come by this days and people would do anything for money. I don’t want to lose you! Have a nice day Sir.’ _The guy dropped the call.
Adedeji was flabbergasted, he could not believe his ears. His best friends have turned against him to be his worst enemies. After all he had done for them and their families.
In the next day, his friends came as expected with two other guys, the guys said they own a Quarry in Abeokuta that worth 5m naira and would love to sell to him because they were prepared to relocate abroad. They estimated the Quarry to originally worth 20m naira but because they needed cash they would like to sell to him at 5m naira.
Adedeji asked his friends about the deal. They said they have confirmed it and it’s so real. That it’s even unbelievable that the guys agreed to sell at that rate.
‘Well, since I came back from the States I have been thinking of a business. I think I like this one. However, Tayo and Jelili are aware I only have 2m naira left on me. And I will have to maintain myself too from the money. I don’t think I have enough to buy your Quarry this time, I am afraid.’
Tayo and Jelili oared, let’s talk to this guys in camera, we will get back. Few minutes later, they came in and said the guys had agree to collect 1.5m naira. That he could pay the remaining money once income starts coming in.
Adedeji at this point was able to link what the guy told him on phone and what is playing out. He told his friends;
‘if I want to buy this Quarry you guys will have to help me raise 3.5m naira. And we will have to pay this guys once and for all. There is no how 1.5m naira would be enough to process US visa for two people.’
He then turned to the guys, ‘please go. I have your numbers, I will call you tomorrow on the deal.’_He submitted.
The guys left. His friends told him they have not even eaten since yesterday and they have also been thinking he could help them with some money.
Adedeji looked at the two of them, sobered and asked them never to come around him again. ‘You are traitors and wicked.’ They both denied the allegations but Adedeji made them to write statements with the police that they will not come around him again.”
The question is, what was Adedeji’s offense to his friends, relatives, and his community?
Over the years, I have seen how we unreasonably dupe and ungratefully exploit Nigerians in the diaspora. We have this wicked spirit of entitlements. We act as if money grow on the streets of London, Tokyo, Paris, New York and others. We are never just on these hustlers. Yet, we sleep 18hours in the 24hours that makes one day. While our brothers and sisters work-out their asses almost 18hours everyday.
A Londoner will send a phone to you, you will call him and said ‘I don’t want this phone you sent. I want IPhone 11 max. My friends said this is too small for my level.’
If you have levels, why are you depending on another to buy you a phone? What is wrong with you buying yourself your desired phone? Shior! Stop living the life of an ungrateful beggar!
When an Americana comes home, we want to collect everything he/she is wearing and leave him naked if possible. And at times, when they are naked, we also want to end their lives. Evil lives in our heart and mind. This has to stop!
How many people in the diaspora is not stingy to you? You don’t have a job, yet you drive a fine car, wears fine cloths, shoes and drink three bottles of beer daily, all because you have been asked to help build your brothers’ house. Yet, he’s stingy, this has to stop! No one owes you a dime. If you want money, work for it.
If you ever made your way to Europe or America you will know that Nigerians in the diaspora suffers more (racism, cold, self-denial) to be what they are, than you living in the comfort of your country and home. We have to be grateful for any penny these people are willing to send home.
God bless all Nigerian hustling abroad.

The doctor on duty who was awestruck picked up the result and looked at it over and over again for about 10 minutes, and said, “Sir, this is unbelievable! You have an incredible BP. Does it mean you don’t go through any stress at all? What’s the secret?”
The man smiled and said, “this has been your colleagues’ question overtime. I have always told them that it was a gift from God, which is correct in actual sense. But let me tell you what has been making that gift work.
I can’t wait to know the secret, the doctor interjected.
“When I was young, my father taught me that if I want to overcome negative S, I must embrace two positive S.
The doctor who was eager to know those S interrupted him again. What are the negative and positive S, Sir?
“The negative S includes: stress, sickness, sorrow, suffering, etc. My dad said, if I could manage stress, I won’t have much health challenge. I later discovered he was telling me the truth as I embraced his two positive S. The man paused.
I hope no problem, Sir? The doctor asked.
“No problem, doctor. I remembered my glorious dad of a blessed memory. He was a great man, doctor.
“The positive S includes: Smile and Silence. Smile can solve problem and Silence can avoid problems. To achieve this, you must:
“Select the right people to travel with you in your journey of life at all times and make your life sweeter.
“On deity, choose the Almighty God. Thereafter, if you fail to achieve your dreams, change your ways, not your God. The trees change their leaves and not their roots.
“Stop looking Sideways when you are emotionally distracted. You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks.
“Sayings of people should not work you up. Even when haters see you walking on water they will say it’s because you can't swim. If you like, dance on the water, they will accuse you of raising dust.
“Start to live a quiet life; mind your own business; and work with your own hands.
“Social cleanliness rule is, never wrestle with a pig. Though, both of you will get dirty, but the pig enjoys it.
“So, knowing all these, I always Smile and keep Silence. That’s the secret!”
“WOW! In my entire life I have never met a man like you. I want to see more of you. Now I know that greater lessons are learnt outside the classroom, the doctor concluded.
Stay blessed.

The Tragic Story Of Captain Hadiza Lantana Oboh, Nigeria Airways’ First & Only Female Pilot
This is the tragic story of Hadiza, a girl who had the dream of conquering the skies. She did achieved her dream before she was cut down in her prime by the very people she fed, clothed and trusted with her own life. The late Captain Hadiza Lantana Oboh was the first and only female pilot of the defunct Nigeria Airways.
LOVE, FAMILY AND MARRIAGE
Hadiza was single and lived alone in her residence where she enjoyed every available luxury and was hardly visited by friends, relations or associates. She seemed to have been very much focused primarily on her career and might have been very introverted.
FLYING CAREER
A hardworking and focused lady, Captain Hadiza Oboh was reputed to have checked out as a Flight Officer (F/O) aboard a Boeing 737 of the Nigeria Airways in 1984 .
By 1989, she was already a well-established pilot and remained an aviation superstar all through the 1990s. She was always a point of reference and source of pride for all women associations in Nigeria and Africa.
THE PLOT AND THE MURDER
The cold-blooded murder of Captain Oboh still sounds like a scene right out of a movie, even 22 years after her unfortunate exit from the world. On that fateful day, around 8.00 pm on the 8th of February 1998, Captain Oboh drove straight from the airport to her 40A Bourdillion Road home in Ikoyi, a high-brow part of Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial center. A very lively lady, she was full of sparkle and was probably famished after a hectic day (pilots are some of the most worked and stressed-out professionals), she made for her kitchen to prepare a quick meal to line her stomach.
Inside the kitchen, she set a pot of soup on the electric cooker. She was never to taste of the meal she was cooking. Unknown to one of Africa’s few female captains, her domestic servants were already putting finishing touches on how to send her to the Great Beyond. As stated earlier, Captain Oboh was single and lived alone. The only people staying with her at her Ikoyi residence were her domestic servants and were males. They worked as the gateman (Abdullahi was the maiguard or security watch), gardener in addition to handling some other household tasks.
As she approached the entrance of her posh residence, Abdullahi flung open the big gates to her residence and she drove in, parked her Santana car and strode in. As Hadiza entered her well-furnished duplex, she did not suspect a thing. She headed for her bedroom while one of the domestic workers helped her with the flight bag. Hadiza had one habit which is quite common in many Nigerian homes with domestic ‘househelps’: her workers had access to her bedroom. However, this was to have very devastating consequences for her.
On the various occasions when the domestic servants assisted her with her bag into the lavish bedroom, they saw foreign currencies scattered all over the place. That was the beginning of the nightmare. Her workers were attracted by the money which she sweated for. On that fateful day, which would be her last on earth, as the servant dropped her flight bag in her room, they noticed more foreign currencies littering the beautifully-arranged bedroom. In addition to the money, Hadiza’s room was also full of designer wears, jewel-studded bracelets, gold chains and many others. She was a woman of class and fashion, a very classy pilot with an eye for the very best. Her wardrobe contained the best money could buy. Her residence was also equipped with the latest and most sophisticated electronic appliances and gadgets of that era. It was these glittering items that made the neurons in the brains of her workers to misfire and they conspired. They conspired to kill Hadiza.
After she relaxed for a while in her room, she stepped into the kitchen to prepare a meal. While she was in the kitchen savoring the aroma of the dish, Abdullahi sneaked out and opened the gate for the three other conspirators who entered the expansive compound. One of the brains behind the plot was Peter Iduwu Eche from Benue State. Trained as an auto-electrician, in 1993, Captain Oboh also employed him as a gardener and gateman. He was hired because Oboh had fired Abdullahi for gross misconduct. While Peter was working for her, he was residing in the boys’ quarter inside the compound.
However, when Peter travelled to his village in Makurdi, Oboh decided to re-employ Abdullah pending the return of Peter. That mistake would prove most deadly. When Peter returned, Abdullahi moved swiftly and worked on his brain. He hinted Peter of his sinister agenda to kill Hadiza and co-opted Peter into the bloody mission. Abdullahi was reported to have said Oboh should be killed because:
‘…she get plenty money and property.’
Without thinking of the consequences, Peter agreed to the plot. In fact, he went a step further by organizing for and arranging the four assassins who would take part in the operation. The meeting point for the killers was the spot outside the house where Abdullahi was selling his petty items. When Oboh arrived her residence that day, the plan was for the killers to melt into the environment and lurk around and wait for signals. Once they saw that madam was comfortably inside, Abdullahi sneaked out of his post and flung the massive gates open and the other agents of death entered. Their plan was thorough and detailed. The assassins gained access to the house via the rear kitchen door. As they entered, Hadiza was inside the kitchen, cooking.
Like a crazed cat, Abdullahi took a leap and bounced on her. In his hand was a rope which went straight to the neck of Nigeria’s only female captain. Hadiza shouted, pleaded and struggled but was overpowered. As the pilot gave her last kicks in a desperate attempt for survival, the very person she hired to protect her, Abdullahi, increased the grip and tightened the rope around her neck cutting off blood supply to her brain and probably severing her brain stem in the process while other assailants attacked and restrained her. The bitter struggle went on for a few minutes, and after the macabre drama, all was left was the lifeless body of one of Africa’s most illustrious daughters. In this manner of murder, Captain Hadiza would have died very quickly. The assailants did not stop there. They took her corpse and did a most unthinkable thing. They carried out an act that would shock many for centuries to come. They headed for the septic tank (locally referred to as the ‘soak away’),where they dumped her body. They then made for the bags of cement and fully cemented the tank. Inside the kitchen was the rope they used in killing her.
With Hadiza’s body vaulted away inside the septic tank, they moved to the next stage of their orchestrations: they embarked on a proper looting of her house. They carted every valuable thing in her residence, from her gold jewels to her expensive wears to the hard currencies she laboured for, they cleared everything. Even her car was not spared as they turned it into an unpainted taxi. Peter then abandoned the boys’ quarter and started living in the main building formerly occupied by the deceased pilot. So each time a visitor or friend came to check on Hadiza, Peter and the rest would answer saying:
Madam don travel and we no know when she go return.’
Disappointed, the guests would turn back thinking Hadiza must have travelled or was on her busy flight schedules again. However, as far as Peter and the rest were concerned, they were very sure they had already sent Oboh a journey she would never return from and they had inherited all her property. They were the new big boys, the new bosses. But they were soon to run out of luck. In the house next to Oboh’s was a policeman on duty who noticed very strange movements in and out the premises of the late captain. The policeman approached the residence, asked of Captain Oboh and as usual, they played the same track: Madam no dey house.
THE SUSPICION AND INVESTIGATIONS
But the policeman did not buy the story. Most likely acting on a tip-off, the residence was suddenly swarmed by police officers and security agents. Peter and others were arrested and bundled to the Ikoyi Police Station. Abdullahi had vanished so it was only Peter and others who were in police custody. Interestingly enough, when the police arrested them, no one knew Oboh was dead and buried in a pit of waste. They were arrested for stealing and unlawful removal of property which formed the basis of their investigation. Peter told the police that Captain Hadiza had travelled overseas and they believed him. Remember, there was no GSM in 1998 on the scale it is now and it was not an easy matter of just calling Oboh on phone or calling her relatives on phone. In May 1998, about three months after she was killed, the Nigerian Police was still appealing to the public to assist with information to locate the prime suspects connected to Hadiza’s murder.
When the police arrived her home, the pot of soup she was making was still on the cooker, all dried up. The air -conditioners were dead and on the floor of her kitchen were still visible the stains of her blood. The rope used in strangulating her was found between the kitchen and her sitting room which was now empty, with every valuable item looted. The only thing that was left in her sitting room at that time was her enlarged photograph, and it was covered by dust and cobwebs. The septic tank was still open, with its gaping hole and the half-used bag of cement was still there. The police gave an explanation that they did not move or touch any of the items at the scene because they still needed them for their investigations and for the prosecution of the suspects. You know, it was almost three months after. All the compound premises, right to the gate was already taken over by weeds and gone were the days of her well-manicured lawns. At that time, Mr. Paddy Ogon, an ASP, said:
‘…the public still needs to do more because Abdullahi lives in their midst. The image of the police is at stake. This is one of the celebrated cases the Nigeria Police is handling in recent times. Let me assure you that all hands are on deck to track down the remaining suspects, most especially Abdullahi…the police must follow the case to the end and make sure the killers of Oboh are brought to book.’
When he was asked on what the police was doing to nab Abdullahi, he said:
‘We cannot disclose that, but let me assure the public that the police would soon get Abdullahi. I can assure you, it is a matter of days and months. ’
Abdullahi was named as the person suspected to have masterminded and orchestrated the whole thing. He was later nabbed after an intensive manhunt.
As the case dragged on, it assumed a bigger dimension as no one knew of Hadiza’s precise whereabouts or heard from her. More questions were asked by her relatives and colleagues and pressure piled on the police as the case had already gained public attention and Nigerians were curious to know exactly what happened. Angered by the snail speed of the investigation, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, who was the Commissioner of Police, called for the case file, studied it and forwarded it to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba. An exasperated Tsav told journalists at a media briefing that the case had gone beyond theft and it was incumbent on the police to establish the whereabouts of Captain Oboh.
The Grisly Discovery
Once the SCID took over the case, the pace changed. On various occasions, the crack team of detectives led Samuel Okaula, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (later promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police as at December 2012) visited her residence. On one of their visits, Okaula was eagle-eyed enough to notice that the septic tank had a fresh coat of cement. He called the attention of others to the fresh layer of cement and the half-used bag of cement that was lying in the vicinity. Okaula’s instincts went on an overdrive: he became very suspicious. Okaula and his men returned to Panti with speed to further interrogate Peter.
The following day, the SCID team was back at Oboh’s house. Okaula ordered his operatives to open the septic tank. What they saw shocked them beyond disbelief and left an entire nation speechless. Immediately they opened up a section of the septic tank, what confronted them was the body of Captain Oboh – decomposed. The next sad phase was the recovery of her corpse.
Back at the base in Panti, the SCID team were very sure they had Peter, Abdullahi, Itoro Akpan (he was Oboh’s driver) and one Denise Osama (received the stolen goods and property of the late pilot) in their custody. Peter finally confessed and in his confessional statement, he said:
When I hear madam dey shout and plead with dem not to kill her, I cry but I no follow kill her.‘’
Nigeria’s Inefficient Courts
On the 1st of June, 1998, all the four suspects were arraigned at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for the following:
• Conspiracy
• Armed robbery
• Murder
As the police team was waiting for further advice and direction from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), they got the most shocking news of their lives: the High Court had ordered the release of two of the accused on bail with two sureties. But that was not to be. The suspects gave names and addresses that never existed to the courts. That was how the two suspects vanished and disappeared into the thin air. Apparently embarrassed, the Ministry of Justice ordered that the suspects be re-arrested and charged again for conspiracy, armed robbery and murder but till today, that never happened. The suspects simply melted and bolted away. To the utter consternation of the court, the sureties who processed the bail also used fake names and addresses. Till today, nothing has been done. And that was how Hadiza Lantana Oboh, a small girl who rose to the pinnacle of aviation career in Nigeria was killed by her domestic servants and her nation’s legal system could not get her justice, even in death, 17 years after. Hadiza Lantana Oboh was a trailblazer, an amazon and an inspiration to many .
